Commercial Club met in regular session on Thursday November 14 with weather delaying roads day plans. Committees were reappointed and tasked to push graveling from Tripletts south to the crushed rock start, raise funds, and secure more subscriptions. W H Waters Jr joined the gravel committee. bills for gravel and damages were discussed and adjusted to the pit rate. Water works for the city was raised, with Waters Dr Houser Marsh and Roberts to gauge public sentiment.
Hopkins Gardner T M Gardner and Mrs Angie Snip Hopkins married at Will Snip home near Golden City on Sunday afternoon November 12. Gardner, a widower with two married sons, owns a five mile south farm and is a respected Jasper area citizen. Hopkins has a young son and recently lived with her parents. Community leaders urge local businesses and fraternal groups to close early and attend church as Jasper aims to improve morally and socially. Sincere invitation to men to attend, leave dogs at home, bring families, and join the church effort.
The Alpha Club met at Mrs. Frank Nice's home on Tuesday November 7 with roll call and current events followed by a discussion on calico origins and a piece on Madame Hecamier. After a social half hour refreshments were served by the hostess and Mrs Teeter. The Commercial Club again postponed Good Roads Day from yesterday to Tuesday November 24 due to weather. Work on the road south of Jasper and east of the schoolhouse is planned before winter. Secretary Webb seeks 100 men and 50 teams. Salem Indies will serve a free dinner to all workers.
The Car Liberty Junction Times warns readers to beware a man posing as M J Farrell who claims to handle story advertising for Foxy Grandpa. He visits towns, courts newspaper offices, signs contracts, then canvasses merchants using the publisher’s signature to gain trust and fleece residents. He seeks signatures to show victims while not truly representing the publisher.
The Baptist church lists Sunday School at 10:00 A M with F C Wilkins as superintendent. Prayer service is Wednesday evening. Preaching on the second and fourth Sundays conducted by J W Neltner, pastor.

The eighth Jasper County Boys Car Show will run November 90 and December 1 at the Jasper court house. Prizes include a 20 cash premium for best peck of wheat and 2 more for the best bushel of corn. Hundreds of prizes total 80040. An auction of exhibit corn begins at 1 pm on the final day with Tank Boland as auctioneer. Exhibitors may show one exhibit, with extra bushels allowed for non competitive sale. Seed corn is scarce, promising good seed prospects. Lo Hull of the Farmers Elevater will collect and deliver exhibits at the courthouse. Last year prize funds benefited Jasper. Milo maize won by Lonnie Shrecker and Follmer took a prize.
Mrs Clara Burns mourns the death of her brother W S Hurneny of Joplin after several weeks illness. Born Lancaster Pa November 2 1855 he came to Joplin with his family in 1877 and built the district's first foundry and time shop east of the Pieper lead works. Retired years ago he and his wife spent parts of each year in San Reyes California. He was a wealthy citizen and a member of Company BK Eleventh Illinois Volunteers in the Civil War, enlisting in 1861.
Clyde Reno Hart, living nine miles northwest, suffered two fractured ribs and internal injuries when a load of hay fell on him near his home Thursday. He is reported to be getting along very well and may be out again in a few days.
