Last Friday evening the Alpha Club and several of their husbands and brothers enjoyed a wienie roast at Brown's grove north of town. The Republicans furnished the frankfurters and all kinds of roasting occurred. Apples and marshmallows were roasted as well. The Democrats roasted the Republicans and the Republicans roasted the Democrats, but it was all heartily enjoyed.
Luther Wescott was badly cut when a small ice covered plank caused him to slip toward a saw at W. H. Wari’s in Jasper. His foot was sliced by the circular saw, two large bones were severed, splinters removed, and eight or nine stitches placed. He is expected to save the foot with care.
Mrs Lucy Cline wife of W N Cline of Jasper died at home Monday November 13 after weeks of illness She was 77 and had been frail for two years She was active in church and a longtime resident of southwest Missouri Funeral held at M E Church at 10 am with Rev J W Moore She was born August 22 1839 in Boone County Indiana and married May 18 1862 They had nine children eight surviving including Henry Cline Amanda Badgley Luther Cline Jennie Nealy Laura Baugh Ab Cline James Cline Lula Tyler The Cline family lived in Bethel then Jasper over the years with many friends and relatives in Jasper and Barton counties.
Lewis Walter Fowler son of Mrs. A L Lattimer died of miners consumption at the Lattimer home west of Jasper last Sunday. He was not quite 21 and had likely contracted the disease while working in the Joplin district. He had been at his mother's home only a few weeks. The funeral was Tuesday at 10:30 AM at the M E Church conducted by Rev L L Pinnell. Burial followed in the Masonic Cemetery. Lewis was a bright young fellow and his death is a hard blow to his mother and relatives.
Local Overland agent Charley Lilly lists recent sales including J. T Bull of Carthage route 6 with an Overland touring car T. H. Hammond of Jasper with a six cylinder Overland and H. A. Barneath of Jasper with an Overland touring car Dave Waddle of Golden City with a baby Overland touring car.
The Commercial Club reschedules community work on the Jefferson Highway to Tuesday November 21. Cold wave and snow halted plans for last Tuesday, so the club asks all townspeople and country teams to cooperate next Tuesday. A free dinner will be served at Stark Place by Salem Church ladies for workers.
Report notes that Amendment No was defeated on November 7 while showing strong dry majorities in Jackson County and Kansas City. Joplin and Greene County also voted dry, Randolph Pettis and Sedulia counties dry, with St. Louis counting 140000 wet votes to about 13000 dry but believed to undercount. Prohibition workers vow continued effort to drive out saloons statewide and nationwide.
Public sales announced by auctioneers C F Hex and C F Tex. George I Dickinson, 2 miles north and 124 east of Nashville, offers cattle, horses, and farm machinery in a sale on Thursday November 24. B Norton to sell 4 torges, 5 milk cows and heifers, 20 hogs, chickens, feed and implements on Frank Tullis farm, 244 miles south of Jasper.
The Jasper Commercial Club earns praise for highway improvements while a Jasper church notes Sunday School at 10:00 with F.C. Wilkins as superintendent and Wednesday prayer service. J. W. Keltner is pastor and preaching occurs on the second and fourth Sundays. The piece frames better roads as good investments.
Walter Tabler and Miss Ethel Hyder announced their marriage six months ago and showed a May 14 certificate. Hyder, a Roberts store clerk for months, is praised for her popularity. The couple will reside with the bride’s mother for now.
A Jasper wedding occurred last Wednesday at the Carthage Presbyterian parsonage with Dr. McCaughtry officiating. Miss Gimee Rice, a Jasper young woman, wed H. C. Phillips, a farmer east of Jasper. The couple will live on a farm east of town with many well wishers in attendance.
The union revival service at the M J Church grows in interest with Rev L J Pinnell preaching to married people tonight and Rev W J Mills addressing the young people Friday evening November 7. Each pastor conducts Sunday morning services at his own church with cradle roll superintendent of the M E Church giving a program after Sunday school next Sunday morning.
Taka Club members and guests gathered Wednesday afternoon November 8 at Mrs J N Marsh home. Yellow and white chrysanthemums decorated the house. Prizes were awarded in cake, musical, and bean contest events won by Mrs Woods Mrs Clint Teeter and Mrs E L Crawford. Luncheon followed.
