J F Wharton traveling representative of International Harvester Co spent three days surveying Jasper county wheat fields. He expects a crop near zero to twenty percent below normal due to green bug damage and weather, noting damage is limited and growth has improved where pests linger.
Webb City's officers raided a Sunday Uno joint and made several arrests. Later, a Lakeside establishment was closed by the same authorities. Officials say they will enforce stricter lid on liquor than in the past.
A Sarcoxie woman attempted self harm in an incident that deeply unsettled the Baptist neighborhood on Monday night. Residents reported a tense scene as authorities responded and neighbors gathered, with no immediate details on her condition or motives.

Miss Flossie Turner won the silver medal in a W. T. U. contest at the M. E. church last Friday evening. Seven contestants included Stella Uorert, Sarah Dell Redmond, Eva Daniels, Edon Gresham, Edna Ballard, Bessie Noland, and Miss Turner. The judges awarded Turner the medal. she is noted as the youngest entrant at 18. Music and readings accompanied the event, with Rev. Hearn presenting the medal and promising more contests soon.
Present indications are a good yield of mid season berries in Sarcoxie and Mongtt fields with Istegiitranber and Arkaneay varieties plentiful. Early berries may fetch higher prices allowing growers to recover costs, with minimal losses anticipated.
Memorial services honor Dr J J Martin of Lamar at the M E church last Sunday with a strong sermon to please patriots and defenders. This afternoon at 11 30 Rev Hearne will address old soldiers and ministers will speak. Old soldiers meet at Schoolcraft hall at one.
The Postmaster General orders that rural mail carriers have priority on country roads and all other vehicles must yield. It recalls the era of four horse stagecoaches and warns that obstructing mail transportation is a serious offense. Get out of the road when rural free delivery carrier arrives with Uncle Sam's mail.
Elmer Pugh of three miles northeast Jasper suffered severe bruises after being thrown from horns last Saturday. Dr. Schooler treated him, reports say no bones were broken and recovery would be in days.
R.8 Wright writes from Rockford Illinois reporting on ongoing cold wet weather. He notes frost last night and the need to keep the furnace running. He mentions trading eggs at the highest market price with Jas Tuomisos and Jasper Racket.
Farmers living 2 to 5 miles southeast of Jasper fear two large timber wolves that have attacked livestock and children. Two hunts in recent days failed to drive them off. the wolves vanished briefly but reappeared, chased with dogs for hours and then evaded capture. Residents keep children indoors while awaiting further word on the beasts' whereabouts.
Mrs T C Caldwell who visited with Mr and Mrs Cozatt in this city last week returned Saturday to her Nevada home to join her husband on a trip to Jamestown Washington Niagara and other eastern points.
