Electrically Fatal Accident on 15th Street in Joplin
Calvin Stewart, guiding a street lighting cable, stepped into a live wire last Friday in Jasper County and was electrocuted. The body hung for about twenty minutes as onlookers, including his wife and two children, watched. Stewart had six months of service with the telephone company.

Pickpocket Caught Near Lakeside Incident
A youth who gave the name Ed Klepper was seized while attempting to pick the pocket of Levi McCorkill of Carthage on the car between Carthage and Lakeside Inst Suodsy. McCorkill and another man detained Klepper and turned him over to officers. Both pockets were recovered and authorities suspect Klepper of at least six similar thefts in the area.

Murder Charge Looms Over Galena Marshal Slaying
L C G Frick, Galena marshal, died Friday at the Oriental hotel after being shot in the back last week near Galeus. Four men Chas Garver R D Booth Ed Jones and M Malone were arrested on murder charges and the case goes to the next term of court. Police say the suspects are the real culprits.

Death of Frederick Swihart at Jasper home
Frederick Swihart died at the home of Postmaster Wade on a Saturday evening and was buried Monday at Mitchall cemetery three miles east of Jasper after services by Rev. T. E. Pratt. Born August 23, 1826 in Tuscarora County Ohio, he was 80 years old. He married Isabella Wade in 1852 and had three children. A longtime Methodist, he lived in Jasper County since 1809, farming 1000 to 1500 sheep for years despite a sheep disease. He was known as a thoughtful spiritual shepherd who read Psalm 23 clearly.
