A patriotic picture titled The Land of the Free is to be shown under the auspices of local Masonic and Eastern Star lodges. The event aims to promote community patriotism and fraternal fellowship within the city.
The Jasper Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star Chapter present a May 22 photoplay about Gen. John J. Pershing with roles for Wilson Theodore Roosevelt and many other historic figures. Proceeds aid furnishing the new Masonic hall reception room. members are urged to support the event.
Mel Ridgley and his family of Lamar were in town for a Saturday visit, spending time with local residents and enjoying the day in the community.
Ollie Roberts reports his store was broken into Saturday night. Thieves took cash from the register and likely $400 worth of silk stockings hosiery shirts trousers gloves and shoes. A back window was pried open with a cold chisel and a furnace room door forced. they escaped through the furnace room and alley.
A church program at the M E Church includes songs prayers and readings led by Rev J W Moore and others with titles such as Mother's Love Dear Old Dad and My Mother A separate notice from Jasper council sets cleanup days for May 19 and 20. Residents must clear rubbish from premises alleys and streets and the city will haul away waste on May 21 with costs charged to owners or renters who ignore the order.
The paper notes soldiers who have returned since the last issue: Johnnie Wine, Bob Wine, Burson Keys, Morgan Moyer, Mont Cline, Charley Grim, Lemuel Thomas. This brief roster confirms the home arrivals and lists the names of the returning personnel.
Miss Cora Wedding daughter of George Wedding died of tuberculosis at her father’s Jasper home on Thursday morning May 8 after a long illness. She was born August 26 1876 in Hancock Illinois and had lived in Jasper for years. Funeral was held Friday at home with Rev E G Keys of the M E Church South officiating. Burial followed in Hendricks Cemetery east of Jasper. Survived by her mother Mrs Ellen Patterson and sister Mrs Florence Arnold. brother Osgood of Toledo Ohio.
Weather delayed Friday program as planes arrived late and crowds dispersed. Saturday turned sunny with crowds from Lamar Kenoni Golden City Maple Grove Carthage Purcell Aloa Medoc Nashville and nearby towns. Between 600 and 1000 gathered at McClintock pasture to watch the big mechanical bird fly. Nearly 10 passengers rode planes with mixed reactions though most enjoyed the experience. Local stores reported strong business while about 2000 residents attended Saturday’s events, concluding with favorable reception of the flying exhibit.

Jasper’s new Masonic Hall will be dedicated during a special lodge communication Friday night May 16 with the Grand Master of Missouri expected to attend and conduct ceremonies.
