A local advertisement extols Moline Plow Co cultivators as dust proof and strong with two inch tires on walkers. It touts balanced frames, easy neck-weight relief, 44 inch rider wheels, and low prices. Also features Walkover Pingree Shoes Jackson Corsets Star Hats and more plus O V B Turkey Flour Mayflower Coffee and Henney on the step.
Democratic and Republican committees in Jasper and Barton counties move to hold county primaries and county nominating conventions in May. Jasper Democrats meet in Carthage with 60 plus delegates to set primaries for May 11 and a county convention May 15 to select delegates for state and national nominations. Barton Democrats meet in Lamar to assign delegates by folk vote totals, with township mass conventions May 19 and county convention May 21 to send delegates to state judicial and congressional gatherings.
Wm Prigmore, a Jasper area farmer two miles north of Alba, lost his barn in a late night lightning strike. Five horses and a mule perished, along with 400 bushels of corn, 60 of oats, and four tons of hay. A bin, wagon, and other implements were destroyed as flames spread in the high wind. The family slept through the blaze, neighbors aided with relief funds.
Mrs Frank King notes kin in San Francisco survived the calamity. Her brother fd Young and sisters Mrs Pinney and Mrs Roberts, all former Jasper citizens, escaped with little loss. Mr and Mrs Roberts lost their house and contents in the subsequent fire. Dr Pinney built the home now occupied by Mrs Butler on South Main Street.
Rey Manis the new presiding elder of the Carthage district of the M E Church preached at the Jas per Church Sunday night and administered the Holy Communion. He delivered an excellent sermon as reported by attendees. The conference business session followed Monday morning.
A timber storm struck the Rex farm four miles northeast of town at midnight last Thursday, burning the barn and its contents, including three horses, corn, and 25 tons of hay. Dick Hern owned most items. Lena Rex owned the farm. Fred Rex organized a relief subscription raising about 130 dollars. Boucher and Son advertised sugar corn in the notice.
