A group led by W L Veile representing a land company left Carthage Tuesday afternoon with Mears Thee Pationon, Laudertaugh, W K Doandarit, Palmer, von Allen and others. They headed to Pew Valley, New Mexico, then Wellington Kansas, then Roewell New Mexico for a sight seeing trip. The company offers a round trip of 10 dollars and the excursion lasts two days.
Joe Veal, a well known Mt Chimel area farmer, was injured when a wagon loaded with 494 pounds of baled hay toppled. The front wheel rolled over his shoulder and stomach, a bale caught beneath the wheel preventing total weight. He is feared badly hurt but may recover. Robbers entered R F Elliotts barn in Carytown Sunday night and took two horses a brown mare weighing about 114 pounds a bay mare and a buggy plus a saddle and harness. The thiefs left a heavy rig and a single wagon wheel. a reward of 260.00 is offered for information leading to recovery and conviction. Elliott spread word through Southwest Missouri and adjoining territories with posters and telegrams. Police pursue tracks north through the wad but erosion and road conditions hinder follow-up.
