Roy Tiller and Mrs J H Selsor are announced as new subscribers to the News this week in a brief local item highlighting reader growth and community engagement.
Olis Owings and Ceola Mackey, both residents east of Jasper, were married at Lowry City last Thursday by Nev. Hagan, pastor of the former M. E. Church, South. They are Jasper High School graduates from the class of 1910 and will reside on the Owings place south of Jasper.
Sub-Order No 260 of A H T A will hold a Jasper meeting on Thursday night March 14 Initiatory work will be done with several candidates waiting A supper will be served at the close All members urged to attend.
Otto Gohr a 48 year old blacksmith living near Jasper eight miles southeast died after shooting himself with a shotgun at his parents home. He had been in poor mental condition and was not always rational. Born in Schwetz Germany May 16 1870 he came to America with parents in 1872. He married Della Abbott in 1908 and leaves widow and siblings. Funeral held at the Gobr home with Rev J W Moore. interment in Mitchell Cemetery.
Mrs Ida Belline moved from Golden City to a Jasper cottage on Grand Avenue with her family. Tom Edwards and family arrived from Joe Deardorff place and occupy Mrs Mattie Peterson's home in South Jasper. Everett McQuillin from Iowa bought the Md Calvert place in Rising Sun neighborhood and moved in. Ed Calvert bought the Hinamon property from Mrs H T Peterson and occupies it. Mrs H T Peterson bought Mrs Monnie Beall’s cottage on East Grand Avenue. Marion Owings and family moved from south of Jasper to Linn property in northeast Jasper. Ol ia Owings and bride will occupy the Owings farm. Ellis Cearnal will move from Carthage to Jasper. Tom Patterson sold the old Bill Gresham place to Wylie from Iowa. H L Whicker of Iowa rents the George Calhoun farm north of Jasper after Urban Crown moved to Iowa.

The public is urged to observe meatless Tuesday along with two wheatless days Monday and Wednesday. Meatless Tuesday remains despite removal of meatless meal and porkless Saturday while beef and pork restrictions on Tuesday persist. Breadstuffs demand has risen as meat restrictions ease.
Notes from the Food Administrator explain that hoarding flour and sugar is unlawful and punishable by fine and imprisonment. Purchases must meet current needs. large stockpiles may be surrendered. Violators face up to 2000 fine or two years in prison. Federal rules apply. county officials cannot modify them. Wheat flour substitutes must be edible. unbolted corn meal and cattle feed cannot count as substitutes. A buyer cannot claim credit for pre January 25 purchases. Wrecklii Hubbard dies of tuberculosis at 61 in Oronogo. funeral held Saturday. survived by wife Miss Francis Bell and three children. interred Weaver Cemetery.

A rural high school completed final payment on a piano debt. Students held a town parade with songs and school yells, burned the mortgage in a bonfire, and concluded with a wienie roast. Miss Helen Thomas lit the mortgage fire. Lloyd Grim delivered a patriotic speech. Mrs Will Pierson and daughter visited Jasper relatives.
