Tragedy at Ray Farm Ends Martinet Couple Feud

Charles Ray was shot by his wife Fannie at the Ray farm northeast of town after a long dispute over a wheat crop and a pending divorce. Ray had a history of insanity adjudications and earlier threats. Mrs. Ray claimed self defense as she fired four times at him and later shot him on the binder. Neighbors described a tense day as Ray menaced the house and a call for help went out as officers were summoned.

Jasper Drops One To Avilla In Error Filled Game

Avilla beat Jasper 9 to 7 after a lopsided scoring middle innings. Shaffer pitched for Avilla and Dodd started for Jasper with Wagner and Hardaway finishing. Several players were hampered by injuries and misplays as both sides combined for numerous errors. Rev David Tatum of Chicago will give a temperance lecture at the Christian church Friday night June 16. Admission free.
