William Kirkwood Ends His Life On His Farm
William Kirkwood aged 67 shot himself on a farm near Oia t armel three miles southwest of the city last Saturday afternoon. Found by his sons and son in law after they heard his shouts and a gun report, the body lay across the gun with one barrel charged. Neighbors cite fear of failing health and heart trouble as motives, notes of a remark about “blowing it out” of his body. He had spent the forenoon with the Patterson family, left home at about four, and was seen by a neighbor in the road before the fatal act. Dr Knott and the coroner declared death by his own hand. Funeral services were led by Rev Hearne and he was buried beside family.

Lighting Plant Running Again After Gas Explosion
Jasper quickly restored lighting after a Sunday week explosion of the gas generator. Henry Giesgel of Waporoeta Ohio, the inventor, visited and called this the first such incident in twelve years of manufacturing his machines. Greasel arrived midweek and, after repairs, the plant operated by Saturday night with guidance on proper operation. Gas pipes filled with air caused brief dimming during repairs, now lights burn brightly again.

Neb Milton Pleads Guilty To Mail Route Shooting
Webb City youth Neb Milton pleaded guilty in federal court at Joplin to shooting a mailbox on a rural route during a recent attempt to elude capture. He was fined 25 dollars and costs and paid the fine before leaving town, with total costs around a hundred dollars.

Ira Griffin Dead in Jasper After Long Illness
Ira Griffin died at his Jasper home Saturday afternoon at 5 after months of illness aged by old age. Funeral services were held Monday at the Jasper M E church led by Rev Ferguson and Rev Praill, with burial in Salem cemetery beside his wife. Born July 4 1824 in New York he lived in Ohio and Indiana before moving to Missouri forty years ago to farm southeast of Jasper. He retired after twenty years and lived in Jasper with family. Surviving children include Mrs G L M Veriman and H G Griffin of Jasper Mrs Samuel Davis of Golden City and Mrs M M Carnes of Kansas City with another daughter Mrs J A Washburn of Junction City Kansas. a Mexican War veteran, he did not serve in the Civil War. He was a devout Christian with a steady life and did not fear death.
