The will of the late F. W. Rumble of Jasper has been probated. He leaves all property to his wife Alian Rumble, named executrix without bond. The will, dated December 18, 1868, was written before he came to this county, and is recorded at Inox County Missouri. Newark residents noted in Carthage Press.
George Rhoads suffered a fractured hip when a scaffold he and his nephew Jesse Starkey were using to build a hay barn fell from a 26 foot height nine miles east of Lincoln. Starkey caught a rafter and survived. Rhoads received aid, was placed in a cast, and treated at home. He is likely to be out for some time.
H J Deardorff purchased the residence property of L E K Thornton near the Presbyterian Church this week.
Tom Hardaway received his commission as postmaster at Jasper last Monday and will assume duties next Monday. He names Jake Cater as an assistant while retiring postmaster George B. Wade ends about 14 years in office and plans private life. Wade reflects philosophically on the change and says he is satisfied with the outcome.
Mr Chester Bell and Miss Amy Bartlett wed in Clinton Missouri last Wednesday. The groom, son of Mrs FP M Conrad, works as a traveling salesman for Karo Syrup Co in Kansas City. The bride, from Kansas City, visits Jasper with Miss Mayme Bell. The couple currently stay with Mr and Mrs Conrad. Mrs Fannie Ray’s house burned after dinner, insurance around 800 dollars. Ray lived three miles east and one mile north of Jasper. Deardorff's offers fine straw hats for Sunday and everyday wear.
