Picnic preparations intensify over two months as housewives seek better and different foods for holiday meals. A special assortment of canned goods and other foods appears, promising pleasing options for celebratory eating days.
A Sunday morning sequence near Jasper involved two driving mares and a Ford car. Jerry Arnold and his sister Sara, riding to Sunday School, were jolted when a passing motorcycle frightened their mare causing a crash. both sustained scrapes and bruises as harness and buggy were damaged. Carl Teeter and Bernard McCune in a Ford roadster near Mrs. Patterson’s place swerved to avoid a pole after the driver turned to hear Bernard. his face and Bernard’s hand were cut, the car toppled, and the windshield and axle were damaged. Fred Kerrick’s sons and friends, riding a home-made cart, witnessed a separate mishap as the horse threw them, leaving several scratched and briefly unconscious. NED FRICK died in Joplin after health declines. survivors include wife Emma, son Earl, daughter-in-law Hazel, infant Dwight, mother Mrs. Jacob Frick, three sisters, a brother, and two half-brothers. Earl Frick was in the Navy at the time.

The campaign promotes Charles S. Walden of Walden & Andrews in Joplin for the Jasper County prosecutor post. A veteran lawyer with 22 years in the county and 300+ cases, he claims 96 percent convictions and Republican alignment. He served in World War I relief work and spent time at the front in France.
A heavy rain continued for two or three hours Tuesday night in Jasper and vicinity. The soaking precipitation benefited corn, gardens, pastures, and small fruit, providing much needed moisture for crops.
Jacob Thiel was cutting oats with a binder when a runaway horse team bolted Monday. He sustained a fractured and dislocated knee but otherwise escaped serious injuries.
J A Griffin and his wife are visiting Mrs Annie Bowers Cline and Mrs Robert Horton in Maysville. Mrs Griffin was formerly Miss Alice Bowers before her marriage.
