Murder and suicide end in Lamar family tragedy
Lee Hart a coal hauler killed his mother in law Mrs. Jos Edwards and wounded her husband in a Lamar quarrel Monday night. Hart also fired at his wife then ended the scene by lying under a Frisco train. His body was found nude on the tracks east of the bridge. a bullet wound added doubt to his death. Hart, a former inmate of Jefferson City penitentiary, had just professed religion at a local church.

Martha Washington Tea Brings Presbyterians Together
The women of the Presbyterian church hosted a Martha Washington Tea at Mrs. R. R. Larrick's home last Saturday afternoon. Attendees wore colonial white with lace and dainty capes as rooms featured flags and booting. A program by Larrick, Mrs. B. F. Majors Jr., and Miss Btella Covert included readings and a guessing game on what Martha Washington wore, followed by light refreshments. Rev. Stapleton recently joined in marriages of three couples from the Jasper area. the weddings occurred Feb 18 and Feb 61 with couples including Elmer E. Welch and Teas Malone, R. H. Newton and Lydia Quinn, Clyde Smith and Della A. Beybert. The News extends congratulations to the couples.

In a tense game at Lamar last Saturday night the hosting Lamar team held star Jasper players Crawford Kyle and Wagoner to limited scoring as Orval and Thompson led Lamar. Ladies Aid Entertained at the Parsonage
Ladies Ald Entertained. Minen, Bower and Pratt entertained the Isdies and society of the M. E. church Inet Thursday afternoon, at the parsonage. The rooms were tastefully decorated with patriotic colors. The program featured rebus music about Uncle Sam's favorite Son with each guest portraying a Revolutionary Dame. Light lunch was served, the table decorated suitably.
