A terse report notes a sudden temperature drop caused no harm in Jasper Sunday night. Roads are in worse condition than this winter, muddy and badly cut before the freeze. Star Brand Shoes are better.
The M E Sunday School reports near full attendance last Sunday with all teachers and officers present except one and six classes marked perfect. The school is expanding with several adult classes beside the younger ones. The superintendent invites men and women not currently in Sunday School to join.
Carthage city council approved an ordinance taxing and regulating saloons and beer depots. Saloon keepers in the county seat face 2000 dollars per year, with four years for beer depots. Licenses issued for one year at a time, semiannual or annual payments allowed, with Sundays and election days closed and 1 am closing observed.
Carthage endures a decade of water and saloon troubles as business declines hit the town. Residents blame ongoing unrest yet hope stalwart shops will revive amid discussions on reform and local politics. The piece frames a broader pattern of small towns facing similar decay due to saloon culture and economic stagnation.
The Frei Club members were hosted Tuesday at Miss Geare Crow’s North Main Street home. Ferns and pink and white carnations adorned the room. Louise Hayes won first in Anagrams. Pearl Cunning won at a 25-question purse contest featuring Jasper area businessmen. Next meeting will be with Miss Cunning.
A Lyceum committee has outstanding ticket payments. Please settle or return tickets to me or to the Parmers and Merchants. The next entertainment will be the Grace Levis Company in music and character studies on Wednesday March 11. Anhuor F. Drake.
The Uthai club of young women met Thursday afternoon at Mrs. EK L Crawford’s home for a social hour and needlework. Members present included Mesdames Homer Bayne E L Crawford Ellis Cearnal H J Deardorff T B Hardaway E W Scott Clint Teeter Chas Ward Chan Teeter Roy Welle and Miss Nora Fox.

Alpha Club met Pebruwrysy with Mrs Frank Bice ten men present. Joplin Cigtet president of the Federation of Warners cubs addressed the club. Mrs Carey wis de puis atts HL OB Ballard Mere. Hire will be hostess at the next meeting.
