The Ladies' Exchange invites readers to a Fachange at Hammond's Store on Saturday February 27. Early arrival helps secure choices including rice cakes and homemade bread. Gratitude is extended to patrons of previous cooked food sales and orders can be placed in advance to ensure desired items.
Ned Woodman humorist appears at M. E. Church next Wednesday as the third lyceum number of the season. Spencer, secretary of the local Y M C A, praised his talents to the Newsman. The committee seeks support to cover costs after poor weather hurt attendance at prior events.
Jasper High School boys basketball forfeited the Carthage game with two minutes left, after a disputed foul call. Jasper finished 10-0, led by Starters Webb Schooler and Melton. Carthage’s Stemmons scored from the line but the Wolves dominated most of the game. Jasper girls also played, losing to Carthage 19-4.
Country physician Dr. Schooler, longtime Jasper observer, advocates using a split log drag to maintain dirt roads at lower cost. He notes roads near Jack Stansberry, Bill Lyman, George Waltz, and Henry Winter are in excellent condition due to regular drag use, while supporting other methods too.
In Memory of Charley Dickerson, son of Mrs Lena Dickerson, died February 19 at age seven years ten months. His suffering was great yet he was patient and good. He leaves his mother, one brother, grandparents, schoolmates and many friends. A poem from a friend narrates angels greeting a new little boy with images of gates of joy and a heavenly home.
Card of thanks expresses gratitude to neighbors and friends for kindness during Charley’s illness and for beautiful floral offerings. Signed by Mrs. Lena Dickerson and Mr. and Mrs. A T Dean.
A. M. and J. W. Crandall report the death of their cousin George Crandall in Washington DC. He was a Civil War veteran and longtime government employee. He was a brother of C. A. Crandall who owned an 80 acre farm five miles southwest of Jasper.
Mrs. It Ki Cearnal entertained at six o'clock dinner on Wednesday February 17 in honor of her husband’s twenty six anniversary. Guests included Mr and Mrs L T McCune and family and Mr and Mrs Charles Teeter and family.
Missouri Crop Review for 114 lists Jasper County among five counties yielding over a million bushels of wheat. The official score shows Mushels for Charles City St. Charles Lincoln Pendleton and others, with Jasper harvesting about 1,000,14 bushels on 45,507 acres. The article notes Jasper’s high yield per acre and compares to Saline, St. Charles, Franklin counties as part of a top twenty counties averaging over 25 bushels per acre.
The News lists sales advertised by Billy and others in early March near Jasper. February 27 features W P Ward at his farm one mile east of Jasper with red Crider and Tt Lane stock in the sale. March 2 postponed Shoopman and Gresham sale due to heavy rain. March 5 W I Snyder sells livestock and farm implements at his south Jasper home. March 8 Ferguson and Wescott hold a joint sale at Ferguson's new residence with cattle horses hogs and implements. Rex and Hex are noted as auctioneers.
Dr. Knott reports a list of sick in the neighborhood. W. A. Leighty son of W. 2D. Leighty and wife slowly improves with Miss Milen Harrington from Lamar nursing. Jimmie Cloud four years old and sister Mrs Dan Miner recovering from pneumonia at Cloud home near Moston. Francis Lee son of Frank Lee six miles northeast ill with bronchitis. William Huffman two months old baby ill at home seven miles southwest. Jacob Byers five miles west housed up with grippe and bronchitis. Wilma Tabler daughter of Will Tabler and wife ill. J. Re Wheat confined to bed with pneumonia. William Busby in the same condition as a month past.
