A Jasper notice urges youths to avoid drinking on the streets highlighting social harm and risk of arrest. It notes one young man learned this lesson last Saturday evening and promotes subscribing to the Youth's Companion at The News office.
The first annual Jasper Commercial Club meeting is set for tonight to elect officers for the coming year and review past year reports. The editorial urges continued support and participation, praising the club’s impact on the county and calling on citizens to shoulder their share of community burdens and not rely on others.
Mrs FE L Thomas writes from DeLand Florida where she is spending the winter. She requests the News be sent to her Florida address for the coming months and notes visits to Atlanta and Jacksonville. She describes the Battle of Atlanta picture, hospitable people, a 37 mile auto trip to St Augustine, the old Spanish fort, Fountain of Youth, and a college town with about 9000 residents.
Golden City defeated Jasper 41 to 27 in a Jasper Jasper High matchup. First half Jasper led 20 to 4 before the Golden City lineup change swung momentum. Officials penalized Jasper for rough play as subs entered the game.
Sunday schools host Christmas programs and trees next Saturday night and December 24. The Baptist, Christian, and M. E. Sunday Schools present festive programs with a Santa Claus visit at the M. E. church and a large color picture of the city and Bethlehem. Public invited.
The Alpha Club gathered at Mrs. Lizzie Gresham's home on a Tuesday in December with all members present. They discussed current events, studied The Life of William Shakespeare, enjoyed a two course lunch hosted by Mrs. Gresham and Mrs. Leiss, and concluded with recitations by Mrs. Gresham's son and daughter before adjourning to meet with Mrs. Leiss in early December.
Neighbors found H Beall, known as Cap Beall, with a throat wound yesterday morning at his East Grand avenue home in Jasper. He died about 50 minutes after injury, leaving a wife and two children, with prior settlements in farming and real estate. his son in St Joseph and daughter Nora McCune in Stratford California.
Eva Kennedy and Bruce Jones announced their Aug 14 marriage in Neosho. They plan to live in a new Brookline Heights bungalow and reveal the wedding. Bruce is Elmer Jones’s son, manager for Weeks Betts, and both are recent high school graduates with many friends in Jasper and Webb City.
Rev Ira N Faurot of the Methodist Church performed a marriage for Chas E Jarvis and Miss Maude Hale on Wednesday night. Jarvis, son of Wm Jarvis, is a well known local young man, and Hale is a Jasper area resident with many friends hoping for a happy, prosperous life together.
