A Jasper appeal urges local readers to donate to the Salvation Army fund aiding troops in trenches and camps. Vert Webb handles subscriptions and seeks support, noting slow contributions. Citizens are asked to give in the name of their boys, with calls to call Webb or visit him to contribute a couple of dollars.
The piece urges the livery school board to provide flag logs and lagstaffs for schoolhouses to hang flag displays. Mr Ukena, formerly of Golden City, is a traveling salesman for the John Deere Plow Co.
Miss Lula Lawson received a civil service appointment in the War Department at Washington DC as a typist after taking the examination in Kansas City. Lawson leaves for Washington today.
Auctioneer A. W. Radford sold seven year old mare mules last Friday near Avilla for 880 dollars. Radford says stock men predict good mules will bring 1000 dollars a span soon.
A surprise birthday party was held Monday night at the Clint Rand home for Ralph Rand. About thirty people attended. Most of the evening featured music before ice cream and cake were served.
Zion church announces preaching service next Sunday evening with Everett Looney as pastor opening the message. Bentam enes and ee are mentioned as part of the event.
Jasper and Preston Township joined a birthday tribute for General Pershing by contributing to Missouri's fund. The total reached 5505 with earlier gifts, and more cards were expected to arrive, possibly increasing the amount slightly in a day or two.
The rules set town buyers to 24 pounds per purchase and country buyers to 49 pounds, with equal substitutes required for all. Farmers may exchange self grown wheat at mills or elevators for four weeks of supply at 8 pounds per person monthly, exempt from substitutes, and no other dealers may sell or exchange flour without substitutes except mills and elevators. penalties for violations are severe.

Clyde Tiller, son of Will Tiller and his wife, graduated from Harvard University Radio School logi week near Jasper. He has been on leave twice since entering the school a year ago and is enthusiastic about his work and future assignment at sea.
Mrs Harold Schooler formerly Velma Mackey received a social shower at Mred Kertick’s home east of Jasper Tuesday night last week. Friends and former schoolmates organized a cheerful gathering in her honor.
