Short Change Artist Swindles Jasper Shoppers
A slick con man visited Jasper on Tuesday and preyed on shoppers Roy Boucher and Wes Wolf. Boucher bought twenty cents of meat and handed a ten dollar bill for change, later losing four dollars and eighty cents to a Mexican half dollar ruse. Wolf, seeking cartridges at ninety cents, also fell for the scheme but recovered his money after local officers pursued the suspect near the baseline and forced repayment of eight dollars and five cents.

Leon J Pitts Dead Near Canon City Colorado
Leon J Pitts who grew up near Jasper and later ran a hardware business here died near Canon City Colorado Tuesday. His remains were to be sent to Jasper for funeral at 10 30 a m Friday at the family home with interment in the city cemetery. His wife Mrs Lillie Pitts has been visiting Jasper. the family expresses sympathy. Reverend J R Blythe will leave Jasper to study in Louisville Kentucky. He will preach his farewell sermon next Sunday and enter the seminary in October. Mrs W H Jones will hold a public sale of household goods August 25 at 2 00 p m as she and her daughter plan a move to Colorado Springs for Mr Jones health.
