Lena Avis Budd infant daughter of Claud C and Lula M Budd died Monday after five weeks. Born June 22 she lived five weeks six days. Funeral at home led by Rev C C Johnson of Nashville Church. School Opens September 10 For Fall Term
The school board decided at their meeting Tuesday night to open the fall term on Monday September 10. Work on papering and renewing the inside and furniture is progressing but cannot be finished in time. The new furnace and steam pipes are on the ground and will be installed at once. Saloons Close Across Jasper County Motioned By U S District Attorney
The Carthage Press reports saloons in Carthage Webb City and Joplin closed following a ruling by Frances M Wilson the U S district attorney in Kansas City. Some saloons near the half mile zone remained open. Carterville saloons were unaffected. Ed Maxwell fractured his leg after a wagon accident near Jasper and is hospitalized.

Ora Dunlap Loses Barn and Contents by Fire
A barn on the Ora Dunlap place near Jasper was struck by lightning during a Tuesday night storm and burned with most contents. The insured barn was valued at 50 dollars, but 37 tons of hay and several hundred bushels of oats were lost along with a wagon, buggy and harness.
