Weeds have grown high due to heat and dryness, especially along the walk from the lumber yard to the railroad and in several alleys. The city council and marshal are urged to remove the unsightly growth promptly to protect public health.
John Ward purchases the 287 acre Harriman place northwest of Jasper formerly occupied by Mr. Davison. Ward previously owned part of the farm. Charley and Bert Ward will farm the property. Ben Corn also buys the Mrs Linn property in the northeast part of town.
Roy King and Miss Beatrice Onstoll, well known locals from north of Jasper, were married at the Carthage courthouse on Monday afternoon with Nix presiding.
Harry Davis enlisted in the Navy as a seaman and is stationed at Mare Island California while Vernie Davis serves in the Army in Camp Dodge Iowa. The News reported on Monday that both brothers have joined the military service.
The News records births reported to Dr. Knott. A son was born to Frank Wolfe and wife ten miles southeast on Saturday August 10. A girl was born to 8 L Lucas and wife five miles northwest on Saturday August 10. A boy was born to Ira Williams and wife nine miles northwest on Monday August 12.
