Dr H B Foster superintendent of Carthage District will preach at the Jasper Church Sunday night August 16.
Rev J W Moore, who is in Haines Hospital, St Louis, is improving this week after surgery Monday for suspected cancer near the bladder mouth. Surgeons found no cancer, only a simpler ailment, and Mr Moore rallied well with good prospects for full recovery, according to a letter from Mrs Moore to friends.
Dr Knott reports the birth of a son to Arthur Strecker and wife in Jasper on Friday August 8. E O Seifert and wife in Jasper welcome a son on Friday August 8.
The editor reflects on eight years of operation of The News in Jasper and surrounding country, acknowledging hardships, rising expenses, and staff shortages yet affirming commitment to the town. Miss Flossie Patterson daughter of C R Patterson marries Joe Smith eldest son of Uriah Smith at Wichita Kans The couple met in Wichita while he farms near Haviland Kiowa County They are well known in Jasper County Their home will be on their farm near Haviland after the 15th instant.
Miss Edna Davis eldest daughter of C F H Davis married Ralph Cline son of Mrs. Frank Cline of Jasper at Carthage last Saturday afternoon. The couple, popular in Jasper area, will make their home on the Metzger place a mile northwest after moving south a year ago.
A letter from Mrs. Anya M. Peterson formerly Mrs J H Disler mentions a birthday gathering at her Los Angeles home for James Herrod, a Jasper figure of old who is now past 90 and active. Andrew Houck, also a former Jasper resident, attended the event.
William G. Bowers aged 86 died at his daughter Mrs M A Howard's home in Carthage last Friday morning. Cause of death was a complication of diseases due to advanced age. Born in Tennessee in March 1835 he lived near the Dr Hendricks farm north of Jasper for many years and moved to Carthage 12 years ago. Mrs Howard is the sole survivor.
The fair committee asks all advertisers and department heads to bring ad copy to the News office immediately. They aim to publish the catalog early this year and request daily paper subscriptions at the News office.
