Jasper District W C T U Holds First Annual Convention
The Jasper county district Missouri W C T U gathered in this city for two days for its first annual convention with about sixty delegates led by President Mrs Kate Newton. National speakers Rev Berthe Bowers and Miss Permelia Mahan addressed sessions, with a grand medal contest won by Miss Delia Richmond. Officers elected Wednesday: President Mrs Kate F Newton, Cor Sec Mrs Busie Howe Joplin, Recording Sec Mrs Alice Hearing Alba, Treasurer Mrs Lydia Stemmons Carthage.

Killed at Preston in shaft accident near Jasper
Erwin Collier 45, long-time Jasper resident, was killed last Monday when a stone fell in the Decatur Mining Co shaft near Preston. He suffered a severe skull fracture while at the deepest point. surgeons trephined and removed a large blood clot but he died several hours later. The funeral was led by D. W. Teeter of Jasper. He left a wife and no children.

Rev Hearne Resigns as Jasper Church Pastor
Rev W G Hearne resigned from the Jasper Christian church last Monday with immediate effect after accepting a new pastorate in Vernon county. He will base at Nevada or Richards and notes excellent relations with local pastors and businessmen. He plans to relocate once headquarters are decided and the Jasper vacancy remains unfilled.

Webb City Players Reinstated After Umpire Guthrie Incident
Four Webb City ball players previously suspended by President Shively for involvement in the attack on umpire Guthrie on July 20 are reinstated. Milton Jahortaton Olson and Collings are cleared, Painter remains out. Investigators found none of the reinstated men attacked Guthrie, but all must pay half of the $100 fine, with the remainder to be arbitrated at season end.

Bad Shot in Trade Ends in Ugly Finger Wound
Ben Lester, while showing a revolver he hoped to trade for a watch, pulled the trigger thinking the shell was empty. A loaded round fired, tearing flesh between two finger joints. Dr. Knott treated the injury, which is healing quickly. The outcome of the trade remains unclear.
