The Musical Grays, a family of musicians spanning band orchestra and sax quartet, come to Jasper this Friday April 30 at the MKB Church. A brief free concert is planned Friday afternoon, with an additional paid program in the Lyceum series priced 2 and 4 cents.
A wolf chase last Friday near the old Earl farm in Hickory Circve ended fatally for a large female wolf and two cubs. Lester Earl and soldiers with Richart and McDaniel hounds pursued the animals for six hours before entering the den under a bim bowler. After a half hour fight the wolf was killed and two gear pops were found. The incident left Lester Earl with a fine mark for the week and two other neighbors for the loss.
Jasper County holds a special election May 16 to decide on organizing a special road district. Petition from 70 taxpayers exceeds the required 50, with the district proposed to extend four miles south and three miles east and west from the Jefferson Highway. Commercial club officials and residents favor the plan as a fair, evenly distributed funding method for road construction.
A 12 year old, Joms Bowman’s son, and three companions were handling dynamite caps seven miles west of Jasper when Ross lost the first joint of his left index finger and thumb. The other boys escaped with minor injuries. The text notes boys’ fascination with dynamite caps and their dangerous persistence.
Dan Buerge, father of Alf and Harve Buerge, died at his North Main street home Tuesday night after a long illness. He was well over 80, a longtime resident beloved by the community. The funeral is set for today at 3 p.m. at the home, with burial at Mitchell Cemetery.
Mrs Essie Wright Seisser, formerly Miss Essie Wright of Neosho, married Mr KR D Seisser in Neosho then moved to a farm near Taber Montana. The couple met in Springfield while he taught and she taught rural Jasper schools for several years. C W Wright, formerly of Jasper, now Marshfield, is her father.
Jasper Schools announce the coming year staff: Supt. Thomas, Miss Esther Vinson, high school assistant, and Miss Alma Seldner Grace Cather Captalln Cavenee and Klethly for the grades. All accepted contracts except Miss Vinson who will not teach next year. Supt Thomas and Miss Martin, previously in a grade room, have been elected to teach at Galesburg next year. Miss Martin formerly taught at Galesburg and is well liked there.
George Moyer purchased the J. KM. Curr Soneres property two miles north and four east of Jasper this week. The tract borders the home of Moyer’s father in law G. H. Edmond.
The MEF Church in Jasper hosts a revival led by evangelist Rev H H Hays who opened with a sermon on The Source of the Disciplining Power from Eph 2 0. A good sized audience heard a portrayal of God’s power through believers for salvation as daily meetings run 2 50 and 7 45 p m Rev Mr Unys, once in charge of Lebanon and Mount Carmel churches, is known to locals.
Mrs Wl Worf residing west of Jasper was operated on for appendicitis last Saturday at Carthage Hospital and is recovering slowly. Mrs Wood's children are at the home of their grandparents, J F B Yates and wife.
