W Teeter operates a new gas line filling station in front of his store. He installed a large underground tank with a pump above, offering convenient access for autos or anyone needing less than a barrel of gasoline.
Three of four daily passenger trains passing through Jasper changed time on Sunday but schedule still largely intact. One train moved four minutes, another shifted by a similar amount, details and exact times shown on the local page time card.
The Kansas City Commercial Club will send a special train of advertisers and boosters next week. They start south Monday, stop at key towns, reach Jasper by Wednesday. The schedule is not set, but they will stop in town and likely come uptown. The News urges Jasper to advertise to attract Kansas City visitors.
A farmer meeting in Jasper advanced the Farmers Co operative Elevator Co by reducing capital stock to 15000 dollars to speed formation. About 21000 paid in. Directors Uriah Smith W A Strecker J J Hull F W Wescolt and W H Trille elected. Uriah Smith president W Wesentt vice president W A Strecker treasurer J J Hull secretary. Directors to pick site and order building machinery for the season.
This week the News finds yards and alleys largely cleaned with east and north sections sunlit and tidy. South Main shows substantial progress with Rice’s house near completion on the corner once used by Pr King’s office. nearby Powers enlarging his livery barn with a brick front. Next south, Rice and Lowe erect a cement block garage with 45 by 60 foot interior stair space. a small ice house rises behind the electro light plant while the Jasper Electric Light Co nears readiness in the Davis building.
Jasper hosts a bustling city fair showcasing about 150 illustrous colts and mature animals yearly. Local breeders such as Dunlip Sinense Drew Sharp Murniy Thackerote Lauderbaugh Howsenan Wright Skentner Urban Brown and Ringer have been active advertisers this year, highlighting registered stock.
John Fairfield a longtime Jasper County resident died suddenly at his home Monday afternoon at age 81 1 month and 10 days The funeral was held at his home Wednesday with Rev Wm K Challen of the M E Church officiating The remains were buried in Bradford Cemetery Fairfield born in Kennebunkport Maine moved with family to Fort Wayne Indiana then Toledo Ohio and later Jasper County He served as drummer boy in the Mexican War and later in the 150 second Indiana Volunteers He worked as a painter hardware merchant and farmer Survived by wife Mrs Fairfield and five children Mrs William Cline Purcell Mont John Mairfield Carthage Ann K Mairfield Columbus and Priscilla Tall of Volade Ohio with a sister also surviving
