Union Patriotic Service Draws Large M E Church Crowd
A rousing union patriotic service at the M E Church Sunday night drew an estimated 825 attendees with many outside. An 80 voice choir sang The Star-Spangled Banner and The Battlecry of the Republic as Rev L L Pinnell read a scripture lesson. J W Moore spoke on the new service flag and Prof Fr J Wilkins compared democratic US government with autocratic Germany, urging support for bonds and government during the crisis.

Jefferson Highway Work Finished by Commercial Club
At a Commercial Club meeting last Thursday night a bill was approved paying the road overseer 129.76 dollars for work on the Jefferson Highway from the bageline three miles south of Jasper to the Barton County line a mile north. The project, undertaken two years ago, aimed to gravel and grade the road to the Barton County line.

Red Cross Receives Funds From Community Effort
A citizen meeting committee collected 37 dollars for flowers and funeral costs for Worth Masters. They paid 25 dollars for the floral price and deposited 12.90 dollars in the local Red Cross fund in Masters name. Committee members included Bert Webb, Mrs. Anna Rex, Mrs. A. F. Drake, Ollie Roberts, J. R. Bow era, J. D. Harbur and Charlie Teeter. The News Office notes ample old newspapers and urges conserve food to aid the war effort. Speakers received hearty applause after two hours of remarks ending with God Keep and Guide Our Men.

Community Service Flag Unfurled In Jasper For War Support
A community service flag honoring local service members was unveiled Saturday at Main and Grand Avenue. The 10 by 6 feet banner with 47 stars features a gold star for Henry Sweexy who died in camp. Speeches by Rev. Pinnell and Mr. Scott urged support for the government and Liberty Bond sales, with praise for German-descended citizens’ patriotism and a call to aid troops through government aid programs.
