Father’s Silent Sacrifice Revealed After Death

A poem by Edgar Guest recounts a son’s realization of his father’s quiet sacrifices. Election Quietly Returns School Board and City Council

The Spring Election produced no opposition. For city council West Ward candidates W. H. Waters Jr and Dr Houser were named, East Ward LV Nunnelly. Jay Good was reelected to the school board and J Se Hull won. The 60 cent school levy and nine month term carried without dissent.

Death of Mrs Louise Rollins in Jasper

Mrs Louise Rollins died Wednesday night after heart trouble two days earlier at age about 75. Survived by sons T H Rollins of Keokuk Iowa F R C Rollins and George L Rollins of Kansas City and daughter Mrs W H Knott of Jasper. Casket shipped to old family home. card of thanks from family for support during illness and death.

Caleb Embree Dead After Long Illness

Caleb Embree aged about 80, long illness at his home in Jesper ended with his death at 3 10 a m Wednesday. He was a respected local citizen and funeral arrangements were set at press time.

Saving a Military Necessity

The Food Administration states that to supply the Allies with wheat until the next harvest a 60 percent reduction in monthly consumption is required. Monthly use would target 21 million bushels, versus the normal 42 million, preserving a margin for the Army and special cases and leaving about 114 pounds of wheat products per person weekly for general consumption.

Hotelmen pledge 100 percent wheat saving for Allies

In Washington 700 hotel men were asked by Food Administrator Hoover to end wheat in menus. The response was a standing oath of pledge as the nation faces a critical wartime point, Hoover warning that a proper wheat supply is among the era’s greatest difficulties.

Patriotic Services at Local Churches Next Sunday Night

A patriotic union service of the M. Kk Church and the M. ik Church, South, will be held at the M. i Church next Sunday night. Eli Scott and Prof. Wilking will speak and patriotic music will be provided. Singers from both churches should meet at the M. 1 Church Friday night at 7.90 for rehearsal. Morning services follow usual times at 9.46 and 11 o'clock. evening services at 7 and 8.

Births Reported This Week Near Jasper

Births reported to the News this week list two baby boys. Dr. Knott assisted A. W. Radford and wife, 5 miles southeast of Jasper, with a boy born Tuesday April 2. Philip Campbell and wife welcomed a son Tuesday April 2, 1 mile west of Jasper.

Frank King Comes to Town

Frank King a well known stock man and farmer living 2 percent miles southwest of town visited Jasper last Friday. He had so much facial hair that friends hardly recognized him before John Martin cattle buyer at Kansas City stockyards and John Cather and George Rex led him to Tabler's for a shave and haircut. They had to hog-tie him to remove the whiskers and Frank joked he would not need another shave until about June 10.
