Ben Smith advertises no public sale at his farm five miles east and two miles north of Jasper on Friday April 17. He will sell two horses two good cows and a lot of farm implements and miscellaneous articles. A large shipment of Salvet has arrived and is for sale at Jackson Bros.

The Jasper election saw two councilmen and a police judge chosen. William Stonehocker was reelected with 87 or 88 votes for police judge. East ward councilman Bert Webb won with 36 of 37 votes. West ward councilman W C Thomas led with 24 votes, Teeter 13, and others. Pollmer and J W Brown were reelected school directors. A 60 cent tax levy and nine months term proposition passed, with only two votes against.
Frauleins Fralic and Preuleite hosted a women’s evening with Miss Justtia Hendricks and Mary Drake. Pictures of men were passed around for viewing, Miss Peterson won a man doll, Miss Cordz received a masculine doll for six ams, and a male judge presided over a millinery contest. A two-course innchen and music punctuated the festivities.
An editorial extols springtime in nature and the woods urging urban readers to enjoy the fields. It contrasts city life with rural retreats and Christlike calm found in birdsong and breeze, urging charity toward those who cannot or will not leave the city.
Mrs W S Tabler has been very ill with typhoid fever for two weeks and, as we go to press, the condition is not better though a change is hoped for in a day or two.
Mrs Hoover suffered a paralytic stroke last Thursday and lies at the point of death. She is just 22 years of age and relatives and friends are apprehensive about her condition.
Mrs Henry Wise, about 38, died at her home eight miles southeast of Jasper Sunday night and was buried in the Brethren Churchyard on the baseline south of Jasper. She leaves a husband and three children.
Easter will be observed next Sunday at the ME Church with Sunday School classes. A special Easter sermon will be preached at Tipclock, followed by the annual Easter exercises by the Sunday School at 8 pm. All are invited.
William H Smith aged 66 of 61 miles southeast of Jaspar died of pneumonia at his home on Friday night. The funeral was held at Zion Church with Henry Sunderland of the Church of the Brethren officiating, followed by burial at Mitchell Cemetery. He leaves a son and a willow and one son survive him.
Miss Schwarts a Home Missionary field worker will speak at the M B E Church next Tuesday evening, April 4, at 5 o clock. She comes with fine recommendations as a forcible and pleasant speaker and will portray work in our homeland and its development for the Kingdom. Everyone welcome. An article in this issue notes that progeny of a single fly can reach billions in a season.
The Jasper County Dairy Association will hold a meeting at Hammond's Hall in Jasper on Saturday April 17 at 2 p.m. The event invites all farmers and interested families to attend as important business and topics of interest to farmers will be discussed. Tom Brock serves as vice president.
Hugh Meladae was elected Joplin's first mayor under the commission form of government. He defeated F Osborne by a margin of 57 to 43. HH Staley, a Democrat, was elected mayor of Corthave by a 5% majority. Meanthanes elected city officials including minister, attorney, collector, assessor, treasurer, and four councilmen. Democrats won two council seats alongside the mayor.
H O Corda, superintendent at Bell Telephone, buys Chandler & Sot mercantile stock at a high price. He resigns as Bell manager, will take a share in his new business immediately. Corda, a young executive, has built local friendships as he shifts from telecom to commerce. A Missouri agricultural college alumnus raises the college question.
