Kermit prepares for the second Winkler County rodeo Friday through Sunday June 16 18 with events including Brahma bull riding calf roping and bulldogging totaling 3000 in purses. Council Calls For Garbage Bids On June 26

The City Council announced bids for a one year garbage collection contract to be received and opened June 26. Mayor H H McAllister said bids cover residential and business pickup with weekly fees of 85 cents for residents and 75 cents for businesses under a recently passed ordinance to improve health and fire protection.

Anderson and Pritchard Company rated work this week on a storage place for equipment and supplies. Carpenters began on a house garage and warehouse rack and pipe rack. The storage facilities will speed up production in the Jal area.

Mr and Mrs Henry Pogan went fishing during the weekend on the Pecos River and returned with a fine catch.

Mrs. Conner Buried In Angelo San Angelo

Funeral services were held in San Angelo for Mrs. Anna Belle Conner 54 who died Monday at her home. She came here a year and a half ago and was a former resident of San Angelo. The body was taken to Angelo by Carpenter Funeral Home. She is survived by her husband C. H. Conner and eight children.

Scouts Back After Big Time At Weed Camp

Tude Cunningham who sponsored the boy scouts reported to the Jal scout master after the trip to We Hin Ah Pay Camp at Weed. Jal Troop 40 won stunt night first place and the group earned multiple best awards. The six day outing included leather work archery hiking swimming volleyball and baseball with the final day high score for the camp. Participants Edwin Baird Duane Rogers John Wiley Cunningham Wayne Wadsworth and Charles Huffaker were praised for conduct and effort.

Faulty Sidewalks To Be Replaced City Ordinance

Property owners with wooden sidewalks and awnings deemed a public menace in a city ordinance last week moved to replace them. Downtown buildings must install concrete or brick walks and remove hazardous awnings that posed fire risks.

E. E. Pittman was reelected chairman as Lea Cepublicans met in Lovin week. J. D. Brown of Jal served as county Republican treasurer and member of the committee. Other state leaders included Hobbs, G Ai Wright, and Seth Alston of Pittman. Twenty precincts will form the central committee.
