Rotary Meeting Includes Anns Guests and Music

The Rotary Club met Tuesday night with Rotary Anns in attendance. J. L. Burke spoke on his life in a brief sketch. Miss Ray presented two readings and the Sunshine quartet performed songs. Guests included Mr and Mrs Homer Pender and Frank Francheni. The group enjoyed Rotary songs.

The singing convention at the Methodist Church last Sunday offered an interesting program but drew few attendees due to widespread illness in town.

I. S. Morgan Succumbs At Jal Tuesday

I S Morgan died of a heart attack early Tuesday at Jal after a recent string of heart attacks. He lived alone at the Monterrey Hotel and called in roomers for aid when the final attack struck about 1 30 a m Tuesday. His widow two sons and other relatives were notified. the body was taken to Pecos for burial Thursday. Morgan had long resided in Pecos and Monahans where his sons lived and operated a dairy or resided respectively.

Franchini Wins Paper-Weight Title in Four-State Meet

Frank Franchini of Jal captures the 105-pound class in the four state boxing tournament at Hobbs last week. He defeats Bunny Moore of Shamrock after three rounds, backed by town support. Other champions include Dick Miller 115, Al Milne 125, Truman Salyer 145, Jack Easton 160, Eddie Hawthorn 175, and Julian Ashbrook heavyweight.

Frank Eichinger suffered several broken ribs after a slip on a pine piece. He received treatment at a local hospital.

Marriage License Issued for Combest and Henry

The license was issued January 20 to J P Combest and Frances Henry, both of Jal. Mrs J L Cooper received word that her mother Mrs Eli Buck of Barbington Ohio had died Wednesday. She had not seen her family in years and was shocked by the news. H A Petty made a business trip to Malaga Loving Carlsbad and Hobbs this week.

Hatchet Accident Injures Local Man in Temple

Jim Bryant suffered a head injury when a hatchet broke while he was trimming an iron barrel. A fragment embedded in his temple and was removed at the local hospital.

New Mexico Sets February Oil Allowable At 113000 Barrels

In Santa Fe on January 31 the State Oil Conservation Commission raised New Mexico's February oil production allowable to 113000 barrels from January's 101900. A well near Kersey & Co. strike tested at 52 barrels in 23 hours, depth 3138 feet, located in section 21-18s-30e. One abandonment noted in Lea, Anderson Prichard No 12 Wells in 4-25s-37e. R D Springer Burns In Fall Into Hot Oil

R D Springer of Oscar Drilling Company was injured when a wrench slipped causing him to fall into hot oil. He suffered burns to feet and legs, received treatment, and was released from the hospital. Lea County elementary principals meet in Hobbs Friday to discuss a county wide testing program and subject uniformity. Gammill, chairman of the New Mexico Educational Association elementary principals group, visited briefly before returning to Lubbock. The Methodist Church Young Adults class held a social with games, cake, and coffee in the church reception room.

Local Man Treated After Gas Line Blowout Injury

George Sloan received hospital treatment this week after a gas line rupture hurled sand and gravel at his face and eyes. He spent two days recovering from the incident.
