Butts county fair proves financial and moral success
After a week of education entertainment and amusement the Butts county fair closed with solid finances. Stock sales covered permanent improvements and gate receipts show and concession privileges will cover premiums and expenses. Attendance was the largest in Jackson with strong displays from agricultural and livestock departments and popular shows creating a successful exposition. Monte Rolfe faced mechanical issues but plans to open an aviation school in Jackson with local cooperation.

Georgia Troops Ordered to Border Deployment
Georgia soldiers from Camp Harris receive War Department orders to move to the Mexican border. Brig Gen Walter A Harris will command at El Paso with the Fifth Regiment first to depart, followed by the Second. artillery already sent. After four months in camp they are in good condition and eager for service.

Mrs J J Gilbert Dies in Jacksonville Florida
Mrs J J Gilbert died in Jacksonville Florida on Tuesday October 10. Her funeral was held at Stark at 4 PM the following Wednesday conducted by Rev F G Spearman and Rev Olin King. Survivors include her husband her parents Mr and Mrs J R Harris three sisters Mrs L D Singley Mrs L O Neal and Mrs W M Sheats one brother Mr H R Harris and several nieces and nephews.

The 1916 report by Mr. G. E. Rice notes 22 boys completed the club, below past years. The yield scoring system follows State and U S Department of Agriculture rules with 30 points for yield 30 for cost 20 for written report and record book 20 for selection of 10 ears, total 100 points.

Recruiting Office Opened in Jackson Georgia
Capt R D Sullivan and Sgt C E Minis from Atlanta visit Jackson to open a recruiting office for the fifth and sixth congressional districts. Georgia needs 7000 men. 4000 have responded. Recruits in groups of 20 will train at Fort Oglethorpe and then deploy to the border. Jackson Rifles have 62 men from local counties. Details via postmaster I J Slaughter.
