Georgia Peanut Producers Face 50 Percent Compliance Under AAA

Homer Durden of the Agricultural Adjustment Administration said in Athens that Georgia commercial peanut growers with 1939 Triple-A allotments totaling 530 000 acres will likely have about half of that acreage in compliance. State payments for 1939 participation are expected to total around 430 000 dollars on about 397 000 acres. All counties are designated commercial peanut counties. Acrement rules define peanuts for market as vines separated mechanically and sold off the farm. Allocations cover farms producing peanuts for market in 1935–38 or new farms starting in 1939. The conservation payment per acre is 15 cents per 100 pounds of normal yield. overplanting incurs a 1.25 dollar per 100 pounds deduction on excess planted.
