Georgia to end passing hat tax method and set minimum valuations
Georgia will replace voluntary hat contributions with a state enforced minimum valuation. Tax commissioner Fullbright explains that actual values far exceed returned values, with only 32 percent of true worth reported. Counties must reach at least 35 percent, boosting 1920 tax values by about 225 million and increasing state revenue accordingly. Special investigators may aid counties in uncovering unreturned property.
