Jackson Rifles Spark at Georgia National Guard Inspection
The Jackson Rifles, Company A, Second Regiment Georgia National Guard, received a first class inspection Monday night. Maj. F. L. Palmer and Capt. Jas. M. Kimbrough Jr. praised officers and men, noting near standard enlistment and thorough drill. Capt. G. E. Mallet was credited for coaching, and cold weather shortened the event before Palmer and Kimbrough departed for Macon to inspect other units.

Taxpayers Slow in Settling This Year
Up to January 14 approximately 12000 in taxes were still uncollected. Of that amount 9403.76 was due by white taxpayers. The books close December 20 under state law and Tax Collector J. P. Maddox has kept them open to allow late payments. He plans to issue executions when necessary and urges all to settle promptly to save taxpayers expense.

Butts County Lists 126 Pensioners for 1916 Roll
Butts county has 126 pensioners on the 1916 roll, one less than in 1915. Judge J. H. Ham completed the list and it will pay out 7555 dollars this year to 58 widows, 63 indigent and service soldiers, and 5 disabled soldiers. Eight pensioners died last year, five new applicants were added, and two were transferred. Pension payments depend on state funds, with checks to follow the arrival of sufficient money from Pension Commissioner John W. Lindsey, likely in a few weeks.

At a trustees meeting last week in Atlanta, F. S. Etheridge was reelected president of the Atlanta Trust Company. He has spent days in Atlanta to manage company affairs and was also re-elected as a director of the Fourth National Bank of Macon.
