Early Cotton Bolls Reported as Damage Persists
Mrs. L. D. Singley delivered the season’s first open cotton boll to this office on Tuesday. Three bolls were fully mature with some stalks showing three to four open bolls. Dry weather has damaged the crop across the territory, signaling an early harvest and a small yield.

Fall Term Opens September 6 at Jackson Public Schools
The Jackson public schools will open for the 1915 16 session on Monday September 6. Superintendent W P Martin announces no tuition will be charged for students in Butts county or Jackson city attending school. A strong teaching force is assembled and the Domestic Science department will receive added attention as work begins on cleaning the building and grounds.

Vets Reunion Draws Georgia Unit to Fitzgerald
The Georgia division United Confederate Veterans will meet in Fitzgerald on August 17 and 18. The G S and F railway is the official route with tickets on sale August 15 and 16 and a final limit August 22. General J W Preston of Macon is division commander and a special Macon train will run to Fitzgerald. Delegates from Camp Barnett are expected to attend.

Police Chiefs Attend Macon Convention Elects Cordele Chief

Indian Springs Holiness Camp Meeting Enters Second Week
The Indian Springs Holiness camp meeting enters its second week with Thursday opening night. Dr. H. C. Morrison Rev. Arthur Moore and Rev. J. L. Brasher preach. Butts County Day was observed with a countywide program and one day yearly for Butts County loyalty. A large Sunday crowd traveled by rail buggy and auto, anticipating a climax next Sunday with several thousand on the grounds.

McAlister Resigns to Join Jackson Mercantile
Laurens community learns that T. J. McAlister resigns from Davis Roper Company to take a more lucrative role with the Jackson Mercantile Company of Jackson Georgia. He will leave late this week, while Mrs McAlister and the children will stay in Laurens for several weeks. McAlister came to Laurens four years ago as buyer and manager of the dry goods department and is praised as capable and courteous.
