Captain W M Mayo, longtime Atlanta police officer and former Butts County youth, was elected chief of police of Atlanta Tuesday. He succeeds J L Beavers who was suspended. Mayo had served as acting chief. Mayo narrowly lost Fulton sheriff race last year.

Veterans from this county attended the annual reunion of the Thirtieth Georgia regiment at Riverdale last Friday. Notables included J. F. Preston B. T. Deason L. E. Stephens J. A. Dodson and J. M. T. Fatal Sunday shooting near Jackson on farm attack
In a farm near the Butts Spalding line, 40 year old Black man Sol Clowes was killed Sunday after a confrontation with Sallie Grubbs and her 14 year old son. An ensuing altercation left a 12 year old boy with a stomach gash. A 14 year old fired, killing Clowes at close range. Sheriff L M Crawford and Coroner F C Stenkens labeled the incident a justifiable serious case. no arrest was made.
