The Houck road now runs trains on schedule with experienced engineers. Mr. Houck says public service will improve and that Jackson merchants withhold freight from the line. He hopes local patronage increases as a case of supporting home businesses and fair trade.
Health is generally good in this neighborhood. Miss Marie Miller entertained many of her little friends at a birthday party on October 13. Mr. Andrew Kelleher of Rector Ark visited his sister Mrs. Broderick last week. Mr. James Davis known as Uncle Jim Davis died suddenly of heart disease at his home near Burfordville. He leaves a wife, several children and one brother. burial was at Cane Creek graveyard. Mrs. Bertha Miller and daughter visited relatives at Millerville Sunday. Mr. G. W. Tyndal went to St. Louis last Friday. Mrs. Overbeck and her grandchildren Paul and Sophia Slinkard visited at Burfordville Sunday.

Mr and Mrs Coxgrove of Jackson passed through Sunday.
Cape Girardeau has formed an incorporated cement company with 1 500 000 capital to manufacture Portland cement. The southern city plant will produce 1800 barrels daily and yield about 250 000 annually for stockholders.
