Old Soldier Dies Prominent Cape Girardeau Resident
August Blerwith, noted Cape Girardeau citizen, died Monday night. Born in Holland on January 23, 1843, he came to the United States and settled in Cape Girardeau, living there fifty years. A Civil War veteran, he served four years as a first lieutenant under General Lines at Wilson’s Creek. After the war he manufactured cigars and held multiple county offices including sheriff and postmaster. He belonged to the Elks and the G A R, both aiding at his funeral on Wednesday afternoon.

Auto spooks horse. buggy overturns near Whitaker home

Aged Citizen A. A. Goodman Dies After Illness
Aged citizen A. A. Goodman of near Fruitland died Sunday morning from chronic heart trouble and was interred at Pleasant Hill cemetery Monday. A native of Rowan County North Carolina, he was 69 years old and had lived in the county for over 40 years. He is survived by his son William and daughter Elizabeth, three brothers, and one sister. The community extends sympathy.
