A fire destroyed the Bonne Terre post office and a death report notes H P Montgomery was killed at Essex by Greenfield Crow last week. Crow claims Montgomery harmed his daughter. The piece also parodies journalism and disputes over charges, ending with a quip about running a newspaper.
At Sedalia Missouri Central Business College reports graduates taking key roles. C C McCampbell becomes circulation chief for Spare Moments magazine with $150 monthly pay rising to $2400 yearly. O L Phelps joins Wabash Railroad starting $70 monthly, later promoted. John Ludwig hires by Missouri Pacific at $70. Miss Nell Woods stenographer for Sedalia Theater. George bookkeeper praised by Waltmer Institute. Whitchurch leads Looney Blues Lumber Co. at Lincoln earning near $100 monthly. Brinker as telegraph operator at Slater. Deer joins Marshall Field Co. in Chicago as bookkeeper. Powell Clayton named US Assistant District Attorney of Arkansas. Miss Wilson and Miss Willa McClure take stenographer roles in Nevada, and Corder station agent Leo Wollman hired. Center booth at fair invited.
Hiram Phillips of St. Louis, engineer for the water and light works, arrived last Saturday. A council meeting Saturday night appointed H. H. Anderson as superintendent of the construction of the light and water plant. Anderson is an experienced electrician and machinist. Work to install the plant will begin immediately.
The report notes St. Pauls Lutheran church nearing completion with four walls, a courthouse roof underway, C. H. Walters building foundation finished, a brick marble cutting factory nearing completion, Goodwin and Jeans cold storage frame up, and J F McLain barn framework rising. Jackson continues to improve.

Two young men in Cape Girardeau County were accidentally shot last week. Stanley near Neelys Landing was struck in the arm while carrying a revolver for protection during a prayer meeting, suffering only minor damage. August Matteson on a farm near Tilsit was also injured in an unintentional shooting. neither injury is serious. Alexander Chavin and family plan a Sabbath visit for the eight year old preacher Washington Chavis at Corinthian Baptist Church under Rev. A Richards.
In Phenix Poca, the Poca Kid baseball team defeated Oak Ridge 13 to 1 on Sunday. Shawnee Creek lost 10 to 14 to Oriole. Local residents attended events, including a birthday party for Miss Viola Ninert and visits from county and town residents.
Farmers near finish sowing wheat. Sides molasses mill running full blast. Our school moving along and children happy with teachers. Sunday School attendance praised. Presiding Elder W R McCormack visited, spoke briefly, appreciated. Rev A M Dixon to give farewell sermon Thursday night. Onis McNeely quite ill and bedridden.

McCormack held a quarterly meeting at Epworth and preached at night. Rev. A. M. Dixon moves to Bonne Terre to pastor there.
The Elder deemed it best, Rev. A J May will lead the circuit. A railroad agent, Mr Ed Kaiser, has checked in. The town sees potential as a wood market with farmers buying wood for trains and passengers awaiting service.
