A Long Drive Through Missouri to Wayne County
On December 13 the party started from Byrds Creek Cape Girardeau to Howell County for eight miles west of Missouri. They stayed first night with Squire Dunn near Lutesville and found the company friendly. The travelers crossed Bollinger County hills meeting acquaintances including Mr. Acre LaFayette Richards and others. After nightfall they camped beyond Lounds in Wayne County where they met Mr. Crites a blind Union soldier who spoke of living west during the Civil War.
