Schley Vindication Seen In Battle Testimony
Testimony from the Manila inquiry portrays Commodore Schley as calm and capable during the battle. Captains Sears and Cook, plus Commander Raynor, describe Schley as cool under fire and urging steady fire. The Brooklyns actions and Schleys leadership are cited as decisive in preventing the Spanish fleet from escaping.
