City Council Advances Quiet Reform and Band Feasibility

The council urged residents to move barb wire ten feet from streets, warned of an impending ordinance if not done, and created a committee to study forming a band with the Institute. They demanded removal of a nuisance under the courthouse stairs and considered two pumps on the courthouse square for ten dollars a year. They reinforced a hog ordinance and approved the chief marshal’s leave for a marshals convention with a substitute, while waiving certain costs for Mr. Holifield.

Clock Fund Brings 30Day Bell to Jackson Baptist

At the pastor’s suggestion the Jackson Baptist Sunday school asked children to bring a nickel each to raise funds for a clock. A handsome 30 day clock now adorns the church wall and will ring to mark service start times. The bell serves as a timely reminder to be present, with services set to begin 30 minutes after the ring.

Candy Pull at Mrs Daughtry’s Residence Enchants Juvenile Society

The Juvenile Society held a candy pulling Saturday evening at Mrs R L Daughtry’s home. Irene Bessie Clifford and Master Ray joined Miss Mary Duke in supervising candy making for 30 or 40 youngsters. The hostess assigned small domestic tasks, turning the event into a gala success praised as well managed and delightful.
