Smallpox fears waned as spring brings brisk life. Merchants busy and farmers’ wagons on the streets. Visitors include Miss Belle Chapman of Americus and Miss Minnie Glover of College Park. Mr O D Smith to wed Miss Lula Glover. J R Bell of Atlanta inspires Epworth League in Flovilla.
Judge Beck adjourned the Butts Superior court due to sickness among Col. Y A Wright and several defendants. Court will reconvene Wednesday March 16 to take up several important cases, with a likely aim to dispose of them this year if possible.
The letter column from Locust Grove gathers brief news items from residents. Joe Price of Flippen visited. Col J F Wall of McDonough came Friday. Billie Middlebrooks traveled to McDonough. Locals attend singing, preaching, and Sunday school events. Gus Peek wins justice of the peace election.
Mr R J Williams went up to Jonesboro Sunday as a guest of G W Castellow. Henry Benton spent Saturday and Sunday at Jonesboro.
Dr Wilson of Brent visited in town last week and has a fine Brent practice. Mrs Ogletree and Mr Ogletree stayed in Milner with her father over the weekend. Mrs Dean and her son Dan from Savannah were at the Calumet for ten days. Dr Carter gave a temperance lecture at the Baptist church drawing an attentive crowd. Rosa Hilder hosted a candy pulling Tuesday night with Mrs Elder and Mrs White assisting. Daisy Smith visited from Locust Grove. Theresa Wright from Flovilla spent Sunday at home. Insurance by J G McDonald is recommended.
The Indian Spring Baptist Church was sold at public sale Saturday morning and bought by Miss Carrie P. Collier to raise funds for a new church. The building will start in April. Macon visitors included Eugene Britton formerly of Indian Spring now in East Macon. Thad C. Parker returned from Indian Spring with Wigwam plans for summer display to attract visitors. Charley Hooper will run the Wigwam this summer, promising it will be a popular South resort. Walter Douglass Lamar attended to real estate matters in town. Calumet lodge hosted many guests for the season, Ellis Smith departed for Atlanta Wednesday.
The district school of Blueberry corners and old folks concert at Jackson Institute next Friday night March 18 hosts a benefit for the Methodist Sunday school Parsonage. Only married ladies and gentlemen may participate and admission is 20 and 18 cents.
