Crimson Clover Trial Findings by J R DeLoach Beard's Creek Go
The director reports limited experience with Crimson Clover. Results do not meet high expectations in the Middle States. It may suit winter and spring pasture but not thin soils. Likely better on lighter soils in southern Georgia. Sow August to September. avoid mid August heat. Seed germinates readily, grows in winter, main growth in spring, matures in May and dies back. Recommend sowing in cotton fields in September to improve soil and provide winter pasture. Seed availability through large dealers. 15 to 20 pounds per acre needed.
