Mob on horseback abducted Dr W L Ryder near Talbotton and hanged him from a tree after overtaking officers bound for Columbus jail. Deputies pursued the lynchers but failed to prevent the fatal act amid a postponed trial and legal disputes surrounding the case.
Zebulon Georgia July 19 Ton Langford third member of the Delx outlaw gang and the long missing link in the trial of the desperadoes for Sheriff Gwyn murder at Concord in April 1896 was landed in jail by Sheriff J W Milner and Deputy P M Sullivan of Pike County after being arrested in Arkansas. Langford says Tom Delk fired the first shot and killed Gwyn and that the posse fired only after Gwyn fell. He cannot name Tay lor Delk’s role yet but will tell the truth at the proper time. Langford has not yet employed counsel but will seek representation at an early date.
