Parson McKleroy conducted an inquest after the death of a newborn infant near the Major Ward homestead. Mary Clark, a young woman, confessed birth but denied killing. the coroner's jury found premeditated criminal neglect as infanticide. She was arrested and guarded when transport to jail was delayed.
Town residents were alarmed when A Coleins wife and three children tramped through the area and carried smallpox near Bolingbroke. The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Grant died Monday and was buried Tuesday at the Baptist cemetery. Tom Shaw, boss of the coal chute on the Southern railway at Juliett, killed a large gray wolf that attacked his dog near the coal chute last Thursday the 27th ul. After a first nonfatal shot the wolf attacked Shaw, who fired two more shots and killed it. The animal was as large as a mastiff and regarded dangerous.
The firm Edwards & Co. is dissolved as of February 1 by mutual consent. Peperton Cotton Mills adopts all obligations of Edwards & Co. up to the dissolution date, signed by A. H. Smithreas for Peperton Cotton Mills.
