The Arcus urges Jackson and Butts County to pursue a cotton factory to revive business, circulate capital, and create jobs. It highlights editorials by EAST JACKSON, notes local figures, and praises enterprise while arguing for industrial growth to boost the area's economy and market prospects.
A horse belonging to Mr Jeff Cooper died last week from an overball of peas. The animal, aged thirty seven, bore the U. S. on its shoulder and would have lived longer were it not for the accident. Mrs Cooper, owner for most of her life, passed away last year.
A fragmentary note from J. F. McKibben proposes a bicycle race on Christmas Day within accepted rules, adding odd conditions about not leaving the political oak and a caveat that any damage to the court house cancels the event until a new one can be built.
A brief note encourages readers to place a silver dollar in their pocket and bring it to the Argus editors to pay subscriptions, hoping to make the editors happy this Christmas. This call emphasizes generosity toward the newspaper staff during the holiday season.
A junior editor has suffered a week of visual trouble while probing why W.G. Thompson never marries. He struggles with one eye, then concedes the effort as a bad job.
A mosaic of small town items from Jackson includes love and marriage chatter, business plugs, editorials on advertising value, a local bank’s impact, and staff jokes. It mentions John R. Carmichael as a top lands administrator for Butts county, a new Cotton States Building and Loan branch with Kinard as secretary, and a biting quip about not marrying a girl you can’t support. The piece also notes a health recovery by Thomas Shelton after marriage to Eunice Carmichael and a playful street conversation about marriage and locality.
A testimonial from C. A. Bixsy of Jackson Georgia claims Dr P R Wrightsman of Indian Springs cured a hernia in 23 days without surgery or blood loss. The note ends with another reader, Adolph McKibben of Worthville, noting an unnecessary amputation of a finger due to bone trouble.
A compact fragment lists a cash loan offer at 8 percent on improved farm property from F Z Curry in Jackson Ga, mentions Orange Blossom remedy sold by W L Carmichael, a patriot remark on debtors, a jab at opposing a cotton factory, a satirical zoo donation idea, Hart brand winter shoes sold at Star Store, tax collection note by J D Lyons, and a remark on values and the five dollar bill.
