Historic Clock Tied to Robt Grier’s Legacy in Butts County
A note on an old Seth Thomas clock owned by Butts County’s famed astronomer Robt Grier is shared. The clock now belongs to Mr Nolan who married Grier’s widow and lived in the house where Grier died four miles from Jackson. Grier, a Presbyterian and donor of college scholarships, helped Judge John I Hall Obe Hendrick and Julius Gunn pursue education.

The advertisement notes a June 4 1895 public bid in Jackson for building a bridge at W S Henley's Mill and for erecting a Court House in each Militia district under the 1893 act. Bids open 10 am to 10 pm with bond required and right to reject. Specifications at the ordinary's office. Also reports a church revival led by Rev J T Taylor with eight additions and community benefits.
