Children day service at Eastport church ordains deacon

A children a day service will be held at Eastport church on the fourth Sunday in May starting at 10 a.m. A dinner on the ground follows and at 2 p.m. Mr CW Bacon will be ordained deacon with Rev CC Clark assisting Pastor Rey L Normen in the ordination.

Pleasant May meeting of Thursday Club features Sunshine Hawks

Tuesday afternoon May 17 at Mrs WD Gooch home hosted a large meeting of the Thursday Club members and guests. Sunshine Hawks entertained with witty stories and charm. Ice course in club colors white and yellow capped the delightful afternoon. Mr J W Marlar from Burns ville visited to bring Rev C C Clark’s family home. Board of Supervisors committee examined new Route 3 road this week. Birth announcement: twins, boy and girl, born to Mr and Mrs J8D Yow on the 15th weighing 8 and 9 pounds.

Death of Marvin Grisham in Mississippi Home

Marvin Grisham died at his home in Mississippi on May 19 at age 44, leaving a widow and six children. He was not a church member but lived a choral life and sought religious affiliation shortly before death. Illness from tuberculosis marked a long decline, ending after a difficult fight. his remains were prepared for burial.

Col A W Hawks filled the pulpit at the Methodist church Sunday morning and evening. Rev W J Epting preached at the Baptist church Sunday morning and at New Prospect in the afternoon. There was no preaching at that church Sunday night. Rev Arthur B Howard preached at the Episcopal church Sunday night and again Monday morning, accompanied by Mrs Howard. They will stay at the Mineral Springs Hotel for a few days before heading to Ohio. This was his last appointment here. his successor is not known.

Col A W Hawks presented a stereopticon entertainment after an Iuka Concert Band overture. Duets by Miss Jourdan and Carter and a Velma Rutledge solo followed by two recitations by Miss Sara Wise. The show featured instructive views explained in Hawks own style.

Mrs Alma Tyler Mangum remembered by family friends

Mrs Alma Tyer Mangum grew up in a family school setting and lived with her relatives for years. She married WW Mangum on October 7, 1885 and had two sons. An early Christian life defined by charity and faith sustained her through illness until her death, noted by friend F T Carmack.
