The process requires filing a sworn petition with full land description, surveys if needed, and publication of the registration plan in a county paper. Estimated costs include chancery fees, state fee, advertising, deed examination, attorney’s fee, and possible sheriff or clerk charges.
Unusually dull news from Iuka Route 1 notes health fair and heavy rain with roads nearly impassable. Christmas passed quietly with school event at Prospect on the 23rd where children performed and Santa delivered gifts. Local residents visit relatives, discuss a new telephone line into the Tuka exchange, and several attend Circuit Court.
Health very good at this writing Rev David Mc Masters delivered an able discourse at Poplar Springs last Sunday. Mr Will Smith from Counce Tenn has moved into our community and is welcomed as a citizen. Several from this part attended court at Iuka during the past week. Mr Bedford Worley who has been visiting relatives in Arkansas returned home Sunday. Mr Lee Bell Davis of Short made music at the home of Mr S Littlejohn on New Year’s evening. Several attended and all seemed to enjoy themselves very much. Mr Smith of near NeVille visited at the home of Mr H L Smith Sunday night. Messrs S S Littlejohn J W Scott AB Adams and E R Ligon attended the teachers meeting at Burnsville last Saturday. They report a good meeting and thank Burnsville for hospitality in caring for them. Pross J W Scott and S Littlejohn who live far from a railroad were startled during the night by what they thought to be an approaching hurricane. They summoned the land lady to find if there was a storm house on the premises. Their fears were allayed when she coolly told them it was only a passing train.
Weather and social notes from the district describe considerable rain last week followed by sunshine. Numerous visits occurred among residents including Mrs Maude McNat with Mrs Barnett, Emma Curtis with Nancy Haney near Oldham, Mollie Rast with Maud McKinney, Walter Sparks with Lawrence Curtis, Jewel and Trimner Waymer with Eula Yarborough, and Lizzie Rast with her daughter Carrie. Mr Fred Rast is improving from illness while Clyde Comer and family visited relatives in uka.
An old newspaper advertisement extols Dodson's Liver Tone as a safe, effective substitute for calomel. It claims calomel is mercury, causes salivation and sickness, while Liver Tone is a pleasant vegetable liquid that purports to improve liver function without side effects. The ad urges readers to try it and promises better energy and relief from biliousness and constipation.
Circuit Court convened last Monday with Judge Claude Clayton on the bench. The judge urged temperance as jurors heard many cases with verdicts and continuations including burglaries, retailing, larceny, and other charges. Sentences ranged to two years in state penitentiary for Clifford Smith and various nol pros and continuations for others.
