The notice lists graded school courses from primary to ninth grade with reading spelling writing and geography along with diploma prospects and university affiliation. It also reports health-related moves and social notices including marriages, typhoid in a local family and visits from Corinth Decatur and Iuka, a new brick building occupancy, bank cashier change, guests and entertainment, and rental inquiry for a piano.
Our store unveils new fall line featuring ginghais in striped and dark shades at ten to twelve and a half cents per yard. Silk finish black satin offered 10 to 25 cents per yard with silk finish on 10 cent grade. Fresh calicoes in many colors and stripes fill shelves and counters. Kids and men and women leather shoes, solid leather, box calf and royal calf, guaranteed. Store boasts 28 years selling shoes and extensive supplier network.
Belmont notes dated August 16 1909 record visits by Mr R V Wheeler of Tilden Miss and others, local officials in town, a fox caught by Mrs Mann and Mrs Clingan, and three mayor court cases with fines for retailing and whisky transport. Ada Finch dies at 16 in Tishomingo. A dissension over institute location is addressed by F T Carmack. The new Baptist church near Eastport is near dedication, Rev C S Wales to preach. Prof C W Davis plans move and a barbecue at Tishominga noted. Teachers, dentists, and musicians visit Belmont as several residents arrive or depart. Community committees are formed at a public meeting in College Park.
J C Martin editor of the Corinthian died August 13 after long illness. He had run a daily in Corinth with success and was regarded as a good newspaper man. The notice notes his prolonged health decline and the expectation of his death over the past year. It mentions Geo L McMasters leaving for Oklahoma and Texas, W L McMasters taking over his real estate affairs, plus local acquaintances and trivial updates about residents and visits.
